BHOPAL: The Rajgarh district administration has taken a novel initiative entitled as "Maa-Beti Mela" in an attempt to curb the malpractices like child marriage and Natra prominently observed here. The initiative has been taken under Beti Bachao Abhiyan for women's empowerment run by the state.
The Maa-Beti Melas are invariably addressed by public representatives, especially women and officials of the district administration.
Mothers and daughters are informed as to how they can play an important role in preventing social malpractices like child marriage, female foeticide etc.
Efforts are also being made to create awareness among girl and boy students through mini dramas, speeches and essays. The district collector has also decided to honour the girls securing over 75 percent marks in examinations. The initiative aims at motivating people to encourage their daughters to pursue higher education.
